Our Story
Hi, I am Nandini, and I am working with weavers from different parts of Karnataka for KHADI sourcing for my own brand, Change Constant (@changeconstant_).
I have been sourcing KHADI for the past five years from weavers in different states in India. I have imported and exported fabric to designers, visited fabric shows in different countries to expand my knowledge, and I strongly believe I can help designers source authentic handloom and sustainable fabrics from India. My passion for KHADI led me to create this platform. I truly believe this platform is not just a sourcing platform, but an exhibit showcasing the rich heritage textiles of India—an access point for designers and artistic collaboration to bring a designer's art to life.

At Take a Moon, we believe that every piece of fabric carries with it a deeper story. India, with its diverse regions, is a treasure trove of distinct raw materials, traditional craftsmanship, textiles, and a kaleidoscope of colors. The journey of creating each product is an experience in itself—starting from sketching the design, sourcing the fabric, creating the perfect pattern, and finally seeing the piece styled and worn. It’s a process that is nothing short of beautiful. The feeling of the fabric in your hands, understanding the intricacies of the threads, the count, the structure, and the way the fabric changes after washing—all these nuances define the true success of our products.
Each step in this journey requires patience, skill, and passion. This process is where sustainability begins: it’s about how we source our materials and the relationships we build with the artisans. Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us; it’s deeply embedded in every product we create.
Sustainability Starts with Sourcing
The journey to sustainability begins right from sourcing raw materials in a responsible manner. It’s not just about making beautiful things—it’s about making things that matter. Handwoven and handloom fabrics are rich in stories that go beyond just design and texture. These fabrics are mainly woven by women from rural communities who often live in places where opportunities are limited. For them, handloom weaving is not just a craft, it’s a means of empowerment and a path to self-sustenance. Through their work, these women are able to provide for their families and improve their living conditions.
Handwoven textiles carry within them the soul of these artisans, and each weave reflects the dedication, love, and years of tradition that have been passed down through generations. By supporting these crafts, we help preserve an age-old tradition while also supporting the livelihoods of women who play a vital role in this industry.
The Challenge of Genuine Handloom
Sadly, the world of handloom is under threat. In today’s markets, around 70% of the fabrics sold as “handloom” are actually power loom fabrics. These look similar to handwoven textiles, but they are produced by machines instead of skilled artisans. The difference is subtle, and it’s not always easy to tell. This causes great harm to the handloom industry, as it deceives consumers into believing they are purchasing authentic products. Worse still, it diminishes the market share of genuine handloom weavers, leaving them with fewer opportunities and reduced income.
At Take a Moon, we are committed to providing only authentic handloom products. When you purchase from us, you are assured that every piece is handmade by skilled artisans who continue to follow traditional weaving techniques. We promise you the purity of craftsmanship, and the story of the artisans behind each piece.
Empowering Women Through Handloom
The women working in the handloom sector are a source of joy and pride. These women, many of whom come from humble backgrounds, create beautiful fabrics while managing both their homes and their work. The handloom sector provides them with a dignified means of employment—one that is stress-free, fulfilling, and offers them a sense of belonging and respect. These women work in an environment that supports their well-being, where their skills are nurtured, and their contributions are valued.
Handloom weaving has transformed their lives. The income they earn helps them improve their families’ standard of living, providing them with more opportunities for growth and development. It gives them a voice, and it brings a sense of independence and pride. Through their hard work and creativity, these women are not only preserving a centuries-old tradition but are also securing a better future for themselves and their children.
The Importance of Awareness
It’s essential that people understand the true value of handloom fabrics. These fabrics are not just pieces of cloth; they are a testament to years of tradition, skill, and the hard work of artisans. Behind every design is a story of heritage, culture, and a commitment to quality. Handlooms represent more than just beautiful patterns—they represent a way of life that is rooted in social change, empowerment, and sustainable living.
We believe that it is our responsibility to share these stories with you. The more you learn about handlooms, the more you will realize the value in what you wear, and how that choice impacts the lives of those who craft it. Handloom is not just a product; it’s a movement. It’s a way to honor the artisans who pour their hearts into their work and a way to support sustainable practices that protect our planet for future generations.
At Take a Moon, we are proud to be a part of this movement. We are here to provide you with authentic handloom products that tell a story of tradition, resilience, and empowerment. We invite you to join us in supporting this incredible community of artisans and embracing the beauty, history, and soul of handwoven textiles.
When you choose handloom, you choose to make a difference. You choose to be part of a movement that celebrates craftsmanship, empowers communities, and keeps traditions alive. Let’s make conscious choices together.
